Enhanced strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, 20 November 2007 - Under the auspices of the Royal Court, the United Nations World Food Programme has been discussing this week with the authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ways to further strengthen their humanitarian partnership to help feed the hungry poor around the world.

"A strategic partnership between the two in the area of humanitarian assistance is a natural alliance which would benefit millions of the world's most vulnerable and needy people" - WFP Deputy Executive Director John M. Powell

Colouring the World Down Under

Throughout October and November TNT Express Australia has been eagerly participating in Colour the World. It proved to be a huge success, with over 100 entries received from across Australia, New Zealand and from as far a field as Fiji!

The theme of a ‘Celebration Meal' really inspired entrants, some fun events were clear favourites. Christmas, birthday parties and barbeques featured heavily, and we also had some more unusual cooking techniques, including a drawing of Kup Murri, an indigenous underground barbeque!

WFP to feed worst affected by Bangladesh cyclone for six months

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced a plan to provide emergency food aid to 2.2 million people left hungry and homeless by this month's cyclone in Bangladesh over the next six months, while applying the lessons of past floods and cyclones to prevent a surge in malnutrition in the aftermath of the disaster. When previous cyclones have hit Bangladesh, there is often a surge in the rates of malnutrition, as those who lose their homes and livelihoods struggle to feed their families.

TNT supports Sidr affected area and WFP in Bangladesh

On the 20th of November TNT decided to provide support to the area in Bangladesh that was affected by cyclone Sidr.

Immediately a financial donation of 25.000 Euros was made available to support affected families of TNT's associate in Bangladesh. Next to that it was decided to assist WFP by transporting 750 metric tons of rice to the most affected areas and to deploy two members of the TNT Emergency Response Team (ER Team).
