After all the expectations and preparations, what actually happened at the 2005 United Nations World Summit held in New York last week?

All countries made an unqualified recommitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and modest progress was made in areas ranging from aid to governance. And while there has been some criticism that leaders did not seize the opportunity to outline concrete steps to meeting the MDGs, this Summit has no doubt raised awareness about poverty and the urgent need to take action.

Fighting Hunger at the White Night in Rome

The Fight Hunger team were out on the streets of Rome on Saturday night for the "Notte Bianca". Rome goes crazy once a year on the "White Night": there are free concerts, acrobats, artists and events in every corner of the city, and of course the Romani are out in their full force partying until dawn. It seemed the perfect opportunity to let people know about the World Food Programme and how everyone can join our efforts to end child hunger by 2015.

However no one counted on the rain…

Today is the day. Leaders from nearly every country on the planet are meeting in New York to discuss how to end the chronic poverty and hunger that is the shame of our 21st century world.

Today is the day that could make history. Only if ministers live up to their promises to fulfill the Millennium Development Goals.
