We're off!

Walk the World 2006 is well and truly on its way! Events have been registered in more than 61 countries all across the world. From New Zealand to Nicaragua, Lebanon to Lesotho, citizens all over the globe will be Walking the World on 21 May to call for the end of child hunger.

Each and every one of us can make a difference. By taking part in a Walk, you will be helping to raise awareness about the 300 million children who go to bed hungry every night.

Cordelia, one of our web team here at FightHunger.org, has had a fantastic idea for the site : a whole collection of music tracks connected to "walking" ready for download.

It all started off when she heard the great new song Walk by Burning Spear on the radio. Check it out -- this is a funky tune that will get all of us grooving round the world on May 21.

Adama, who organised a fantastic walk in Burkina Faso last year, sent us this wonderful poem for the New Year. A rousing call to us all to work together with renewed vigour in 2006 to achieve our goal : the end of child hunger. Thanks Adama!

The year of exceptional opportunity

2005 was an exceptional year. Large scale humanitarian disasters relentlessly battered all corners of the globe - the Indian Ocean tsunami, drought and hunger in Niger, continuing conflict in Darfur, hurricane Katrina, South Asian earthquake and the hurricane in Guatemala. These tragedies brought the reality of poverty and hunger to the world's attention, and reminded us of the daily plight of those living on less than one dollar a day.
