Prize-winning Brazilian students visit Fight Hunger

Written by Ella Carpenter

Brazil was one of the key countries holding Walk the World events this year. Hunger lessons were held in schools throughout the country, a kick-off event was held in Guarulhos, Sao Paulo featuring an orchestra of local children, and two fantatic walks were held in Salvador di Bahia and Guarulhos.

A competition was launched for children to write about their vision to end child hunger. The winners, Alexandre Santos Moncorvo from Salvador and Claudiorrane de Brito Santos from Guarulhos, won a trip to the offices of Fight Hunger in Rome! They have just arrived today with their teachers, Enaide dos Santos Tavares and Michel Viera Carvalhais, and we're delighted to welcome them here, hear their ideas about fighting hunger in Brazil and show them around Rome.

Their stories are really inspirational, read all about the vision of Claudiorrane and Alexandre. Read the original stories in Portuguese!

From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my gratitude for having had the privilege of coming to Rome, and for having the great satisfaction of learning so much and enjoying all the knowledge that was passed on to me, such as seeing all of you worry about, and work for millions and millions of children who suffer from hunger in the world, every single day. A big hug to all: to dear Marina, to the very sympathetic Sonia, to funny Matt, to a very special and nice guy who I consider a good friend , Celso, and last but not least, to all of the other stars that compose this beautiful and amazing constellation. To the end of hunger!!! Alexandre Santos Moncorvo

I, Claudiorrane, would like to say that I liked WFP very much, and that with all the work you do, hunger is really going to fly off into space! Continue this fight, the union, and the friendship that I was able to observe among all WFP staff. After all, the millions of hungry children, aside from a plate of food, need much love and respect. A big kiss to all of you, and thank you for this opportunity, especially to my dear friend Celso.
