When I left the Netherlands, I was aware that I will be celebrating my birthday in Africa. It was a strange feeling as usually, I am either with friends, family or my loved ones.
As this mission was too important for me, the celebration did not matter as birthdays are celebrated every year but chances of this nature does not always present itself.
When I woke up today, I was bombarded by over 300 birthday messages in Facebook and a wishe came from Bianca which I truly appreciate. Really not sure what to feel as I have to be at the UN compound today which is like a fortress where all the UN agencies are located. We need to interview the official spokeswoman for WFP Kenya and also Baptiste from the Cluster. That took a few hours as we needed to do a few takes but they were very supportive and did not mind the few takes.
We completed our task and went back to the hotel and just had some dinner and decided to do a little celebration with 2 triangular brownies and some candles. Riccardo was there to sing me a birthday song and then I made my wish before blowing off the candles.
It was one of the most unique birthday celebration I had in my life but yet I feel happy and good as I know a lot of my friends and the love of my life gave blessings to me today and being in their hearts and in their thoughts meant a lot to me as I work towards completing this mission at hand.
Thanks to all my friends both personal, the ER members, the LET members, my colleagues and Riccardo for all your wishes and blesssings.
