STARTING THE JOURNEY

Written by LITU12

I started my journey on 3rd March 2008, with the lots of emotion from the family members & good wishes from the colleagues, seniors in TNT-India for my success in project. As it's my first journey abroad, I am very much excited. When I reached at Rome airport, I found that my luggage is missed by the Swiss airlines, which makes me very upset and to wait for 6 hours at Rome airport.

Finally I reached at Casa San Barnado (the hotel), which is allotted for us. At evening I met all of my volunteer colleagues. For them also, it's the first volunteer project in TNT. They are also very much excited like me to know more about their assignments.

Then, we got a chance to meet Mr. Alexander Stukenberg (Consultant TNT Moving the World Project) & Ms. Colette Vermiji (Co-ordinates TNT Moving the World project). They are very friendly, supportive, co-operative & very professional. They always try to understand us and help us. Mr. Alex & Ms. Colette are feeling very proud to be part of this project and in nature they are so kind and eager to support, help and arrange money for the needed peoples. It makes us to more serious and focuses towards our job.

On next day, we attend our training/orientation session at WFP campus at Rome. At WFP, we met Ms. Patrizia Bevilacqua, Ms. Gabriella Millanovic, Ms. Berthilde Heijmeskamp, Ms. Laura Melo, Ms. Desiree Forsyth, Mr. Nicola di Foggia, Ms. Luciana Romani, Ms. Silke Buhr, and Mr. Rein Skullerud. We have FFE (food for Education) session, Cross-cultural Orientation session, Security & Health session, Managing Stress, Effective communication to Media & learn how to use Camera. We got chance to visit WFP Auditorium, Internet room, situation room, to know more about, how the WFP work.

They give us clear idea about how WFP works for the poorer people, how our donation goes to feed the hungry children, how our donations are so important for the WFP. Till now, the donated money is still not enough to feed all the hungry people. They require more donations to serve for poorer people by feeding food.

And we volunteers are important for them to create awareness among all community to support the hungry people.
