Community meeting

Written by LITU12

Our first step of the project (construction of Rain water Harvesting Tank) is to create awareness amongst the people of the community in school label. The main aim of ours is to give them proper idea, knowledge about the project, what the project is? How is it benefits to the school & community? How there children are get safe and pure water to drink etc. And welcome them to participate in this project for timely completion of this project.

On our first day, we visit the village named IBAGA, it comes under district- Iramba. This primary school has 1050 students and one of the big school in this area. Every day the children of this school walk this way in order to fetch water so their lunch can be cooked and for drinking. The walk was about 2km and took them about 30 minutes. Sure that isn't that far, but imagine it in a sunny day with 35 degrees and almost no shade to rest in, and then imagine to walk the same long walk back.

We have the representatives from Iramba District office, WFP, HAPA (An NGO- our project partner for construction of Rain water Harvesting Tank) with us. We are warm welcome by the Village Committee members. As discussed, I and Chris have to introduce ourselves and our company in Swahili Language (Tanzania language). We already prepared a note for this, and we are very much excited for this as it's our first public participation in the local language.

After the personal introduction is over, Mr. Gerald, Communication Officer from HAPA, start to introduce the Project to the members of the community. He has proper plan of action with him from starting to end of this project. His presentation is very nice and user friendly as per local standard. This discussion continues for 4 hours and the villagers are assured us to do everything for the success of this project in time.

Here, I want to share some good things discussed at meeting, There is an chart used by Mr. Gerald in his presentation, to the community, let me draw this first...
